Let the train take the strain!

The high speed rail revolution will be arriving shortly at platform nine and three-quarters...ok well maybe not that platform but Eurostar trains will shortly be redirected to St Pancras International which has recently has had £800m makeover.
So what's the big deal?

Well, it's great news for those of us on the south coast that can now travel to Brussels in just 111 minutes, but, what about the Brits living further north than the circular M25? Unfortunately it will now be quicker to visit Paris from London than it takes on the domestic train journey, London to Liverpool!

Giant pig found in the Amazon rainforest

A giant pig has been discovered in the Amazon rainforest! The giant peccary had previously stayed completely hidden from the modern world until skin and bones were recently found. A great article can be found in The Independent newspaper. http://environment.independent.co.uk/nature/article3129668.ece

Tabasco Floods

The recent floods in the state of Tabasco in Mexico have left its citizens desperate, angry and horrified by the images that are appearing in the world wide press.
The recent floods were caused by several days of heavy rain that caused many rivers to overflow. For more information see this excellent newspaper article in the New York Times http://www.nytimes.com/2007/11/04/world/americas/04mexico.html?ref=world and the videos on the right hand side of this blog.

Man disguised as a car seat

This is one of my favourite images that shows how far some people will go to illegally enter a country! This is an unlucky Mexican trying to cross the United States of America border - he might have got through if it wasn't for the sniffer dog.

Foreign Tourists This Way!

What did you do over the half term holidays? As many of you know i went to one of the new EU member countries, Romania (joining date: Jan 2007).
I spent a week in Romania, firstly spending a couple of days in the capital, Bucharest, and then heading up to the Carpathian Mountains and visiting Brasov, Prasov and Sinai.

Shukutoku Junior and Senior High School

We would like to say 'Konnichiwa' to the pupils at Shukutoku Junior and Senior High School. We have recently started a penpal email service between the pupils at FitzWimarc and the girls in Tokyo. If you have not received the details of your penpal please come and see Miss Habib in T3.

Kuleana Christmas Appeal

As you are aware we have started our Christmas appeal for the Kuleana Street Project in Tanzania.
We are asking Geoggers to bring in simple gifts such as unwanted boys' clothes, stationary and toiletries. Please make sure that you bring these gifts in to Miss Habib in T3 no later than Friday 18th November 2007.

So why are we doing this?
There are over 20 boys currently living in the orphanage in Mwanza who are looking forward to a bleak Christmas. Only half of the boys can attend school because there is no funding. See the pictures below to see why we are helping!
